The 2019 Global Game Jam theme was "What home means to you". My team and I decided we wanted to make a game about hermit crabs fighting to find a home. There is a bit of an environmentalism spin to it as the scenes show human garbage in the ocean and, if the game is continued to be worked on, it will show that the reason there are so few shells is from pollution.
The game is a 2-player versus game played on one keyboard. Player one uses WASD to move, and player two uses the arrow keys. The twist to this game is that the keys in the centre of the keyboard are shared. When a level loads, there will be letter attached to different environmental objects, and the players can control these objects with the linked keys. The goal is to get your hermit crab to the shell and then hold onto it for 10 seconds without the opposing crab jumping on you.
To make things a little harder, players can only play with one hand.
Overall I think the game is really good for a 48 hour jam and I intend to keep working on it to polish it up.
